I used the logo and same font as I used on the website. which is PT Sans. Reason to why I use it is because it works with Cyrillic alphabet and looks cute, but still fancy. Its a double-sided business card, where on one side information is in English and on other in Russian.

Last week I was at Mediehøjskolen for feedback meeting for people who didn’t get in, which was great because we got to see traditional assignments and digital. The teachers from Mediehøjskolen went through what we did and what we could have done better. It was good to get that feedback and learn what is expected from us.

My traditional stuff was apparently my best part, while my digital assignment could have been much better.

This time business plan folder needed to look more simple and photos were supposed to dominate the design, plus the rope from the photos was supposed to continue over the folder as a graphic element.

Rune and I made several layout designs. When one of them got approved I set everything up and Rune made corrections and looked at typography.

So here is the result which was printed in at least 1000 copies and was sent to different organizations and institutions:

My answer to that is:

Yeah! My custom-made I’m batman raincoat brings a smile to my face when I bike in the rain, knowing that even though weather is horrible but… I’m Batman!

So far I got good response to it. One guy asked me where I got such a cool raincoat and I told him that its custom-made. =)

If you want to make your own Batman raincoat here is what you need:

1. Black raincoat (I found mine in Swedish SportMaster)
2. Vinyl sticker with this I’m Batman print. (I already made a cut-out contour for printers like Roland in the pdf)

This month I had my media designer assistant test (mediegrafiker assistentprøve) – which is a test we need to take as a part of our media designer education. The test takes place 1 year before we are done, and it is similar to our graduation exam. During the test we need to solve a web, print and photo assignments, plus show various examples of design work we made. After the assignments are done we continue to oral presentation where we have to explain and defend why we did what and explain our designs and ideas behind them.

The print assignment was pretty easy – we needed to make 2 magazine spreads, which was cake. I didn’t have time to make the smallest typography editing like adding hairspace in proper areas. Later I found out I made small mistake of aligning images to grid and not text x-height. Grrr… Otherwise no other big mistakes.

Photo assignment – we had to photomanipulate 2 photos together. We has to “cut out” image of apples from one photo and take a hand, then make it look like a hand is picking apple from branch on photo one, and then put it all on yellow background… Yeh, cake.

Web assignment… Ok… We got a sheet with some of the code, and then with that code we needed to make a website just as it was on the paper we got. Its quite annoying to work with someone else’ code… Luckily I finished the 2 pages we did, even though I had to do some things my way, cause I had no idea how they wanted me to do it.. and I forgot that “.” in css was class… so I was raging a bit cause i forgot to put class type in html where it had to be – so some stuff didn’t work.

During the oral presentation I talked to save my life. The examiners were like “oh god, you talk so much!” haha

But it payed off. When they called me back after they discussed with each other what grade to give me I was about to die of anxiety, because 3 people before me failed the exam completely. They call me in and they say “Congratulations Natasha, you got a 12“. *

So yeh… awesome stuff!

*highest grade in Danish grading system, don’t ask me why and how…

Besides all the design work it was great to see how general process of designing and re-branding functions. It was a great learning experience to see what you need to consider depending on what client you work with, how to work as a team and how to handle clients. =)

But after 2 wonderful months of having apprenticeship I was unfortunately let go due to their financial troubles. But still, here are some examples of things I have while being there:

Most of the things I made was for re-designing brand identity for ColumbusIT – but I better wait until it gets launched before I will post what I did for them.

I looked on some sites for some inspiration and got an idea of how my business cards should look. I decided to follow same style as my CV with color and use of dots. I also copied the “Hej” to interact better with whoever is seeing the card.

So in the end I am pretty satisfied with the result, and it seems like people find the idea funny – so its all good!

Due to April Fools, if you search for Helvetica on Google here is what you get. Most designer’s eyes are bleeding today when they see this. =D

What a jolly day it is today! I am finally done with editing photos of pirate-girls for The Rock (Rock Piraten) – so that’s a great relief. I really should learn to use light better so I don’t need to use ages in photoshop to remove shadows. Oh well, I am pretty pleased with the results, I hope the girls and The Rock’s pirate-group will be too.
